Midthunder belongs to the Fort Peck Assiniboine Tribe. The majority of her growing up within Santa Fe where her mother worked at a casting company and she attended at the Academy for Technology and the Classics. Amber has Native American ancestry on her father's side. Both of them are part of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mom is an adopted which means that Amber is of unknown ancestral lineage. Prey has a majority Native American cast including an impressive first-timer, Dakota Beavers, as Naru's brother and a producer, Jhane Myers, who is Comanche and Blackfeet and advised on the film extensively. Due to the era that the film was set in, the actors could not choose any animal. Coco was the choice for Sarii because of her American Dingo breed. It is one the oldest dog breeds, and it is also known by the other title, Carolina Dog.
The narration of TJ throughout the film revolves on Amanda, and some may be centered around his daughter.
